I think the lesson is: hire a professional Virtual Assistant from a First World country rather than the cheapest deal you can get. A professional VA gets your work done - on time and with great quality.

I've worked as an assistant for over 15 years and have saved my employers hundreds of thousands of dollars. You don't get that kind of experience when you're paying $3/hour (or whatever you were paying).

There are many VA associations out there which can provide recommendations for assistants who take their businesses and work seriously. If you're serious about having a VA to help you rather than hinder you, you should check them out.

Good luck with your next experience and if you need recommendations, please feel free to contact me.

I've had similar experiences with outsourcing, and have wasted months of my time and thousands of dollars on sub-standard staff, who can't seem to perform the most simple of tasks.

Nowadays, I don't pay people a weekly or monthly amount to do a series of tasks.... It just encourages them to be lazy and beligerent.

I pay per task via sites like scriptlance and elance. Yes, it's tedious setting up individual projects, but I'm hoping I find someone worthwhile on these sites.

I love your blog, by the way.

Good luck in finding a new assistant.
